Proposed
Changes to the Adoptive Leave Act 1995 announced.
On the 22nd April last the Minister of State to the Department
of Justice, Equality and Law Reform announced the decision
of the Government to publish the Adoptive Leave Bill 2004
proposing to amend the Adoptive Leave Act 1995.
Among the main provisions of the Bill are the following:

Increase
adoptive leave by 2 weeks to 16 weeks.

Adoptive parents to be allowed time off work without
loss of pay to attend any necessary pre-adoption classes
or meetings.

Employees
who are adoptive parents to be allowed to split period
of adoptive leave in the event of hospitalisation of
the child.

Employee's
absence from work on additional adoptive leave to count
for all employment rights associated with employment
- such as annual leave and seniority (except remuneration
and superannuation benefits).
