Laurena is an Associate Solicitor in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. Laurena was admitted as a Solicitor in 2003 and holds a Bachelor of Civil Law Degree from University College Dublin, a Masters in Law from Trinity College, Dublin and a Post Graduate Diploma in Employment Law from University College Dublin.
Laurena practices in all areas of contentious and non-contentious employment law. Laurena is experienced in representing employees and employers before the Employment Appeals Tribunal, Labour Court, Rights Commissioners and Equality Tribunal and provides pragmatic advice regarding the settlement of employment disputes, the negotiation of severance packages of senior executives and, where appropriate, mediation.
Laurena has expertise in advising Irish and international clients in relation to their statutory and common law obligations to employees and on pensions and employment benefits law and also has extensive experience in drafting company policies, procedures, contracts of employment, employee handbooks and health and safety policies and statements. Laurena advises employers on how to manage the dismissal process in cases of misconduct, incapacity, redundancy and poor work performance.
Laurena is experienced in dealing with employment investigations, disciplinary procedures, employee grievances, long term absences from the workplace and claims of stress and allegations of bullying and harassment. In addition, Laurena advises on employment law aspects of mergers and acquisitions including the implications, where relevant, of the transfer of undertakings regulations.
